Adding this comment that I had previously posted on the Avoyelles Parish page.
Comment by Rock Man on Tuesday
Looks like new White River permit is about 7 miles east and along strike with the EOG Eagle well (first hz frac AC well in Louisiana).
This new permit is also a "twin" to a 2011 short horizontal (about 3500') that was drilled by Nelson Energy (now operated by Blackbrush). Not frac'd but acidized with 20,000 gallons of stimulant. Well IP flowing of 1167 BO, 644 MCF & 350 BW per day. Cum production of only 63,300 BO & 38 MMCF / still limping along at a few BO per day with some gas and water.
Additional comment - Have to believe that White River is looking to frac the AC / but time will tell. Looks like it is permitted as a 5000' lateral. This will be an expensive well considering these depths and pressures. Water production issues will be a factor - so an SWD well will eventually be needed to ease the pain of SWD costs.
Good chance that this "spud" is just a small rig setting conductor casing.
A lot less expensive doing this than having the big rig do this type of work / common practice over the past few years in the oil field.
Operator may even use two different rigs to get this hole eventually drilled - a smaller rig to drill the straight hole and set casing before bringing in larger more expensive rig for drilling the horizontal part of the hole

OK - scrap my comments about operator trying to save money by using spudder / conductor rig.
Thanks for posting
PS to earlier comment about old AC lateral offsetting this new well.
Attached is production graph from ENVERUS on the previously referenced Nelson Energy well (now operated by Blackbrush).
Based on ENVERUS map, this new White River well's surface location is less than 300' due west of the surface location for this well.
Attached permit info and plat for White River well shows this surface relationship - but they plan to drill the lateral to the SOUTH (and down structure) to give them a "toe down" horizontal wellbore.
Ensign #777 reported 8 days drilling ahead @ 5253' on 1/22.
1/29: Ensign 777 reported 15 days drilling ahead @ 14,235'. The rig should be nearing the kick off point to begin building the curve to go horizontal. Measured Depth permitted to 20503'.
Thanks for update / making great progress in this easy part of the hole.
Things will slow down a lot now (and their costs will increase dramatically).
Wonder if they will switch over to oil based mud system for lateral?
2/5: Ensign 777 reported 22 days drilling ahead @ 15,150'.
Less than a 1000' of progress over past week. SONRIS reports setting 9.625" casing starting Feb 1st. May also have swapped out mud systems.
Should be drilling rest of curve and going lateral over the next week.
Thanks for alll the reporting guys, whats the advantage of toe up vs toe down in drilling completion. Good to see action in central Louisiana again, hopefully the prices of O&G will hold up! I dont mind paying more at the pump if drilling activiy increases across the AC play. Any positive words on the street?
Personal opinion on toe up vs toe down....................
I'd rather have gravity working on my side by helping "move" any fluid in the lateral down to the heel to help keeping the well unloaded.
So "toe up"
I'd love to hear some opinions on this from PE's
And biggest positive word is $56 oil price (at least for now)
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
