THE GHS HAYNESVILLE SHALE RIG TRACKER.  2023

I'll update each week so we can follow the rig count.  I am only counting rigs drilling the Haynesville and Bossier formations.  Many industry rig numbers are for the "Haynesville Area",  however they may defined that, and includes wells drilling other formations.

I sorta agree, Jay, although I don't think there's much depth to any anti-industry ax grinding due to the fact that most savvy politicians, and even the driving public, grok the reality of the USofA needing reliable energy sources, e.g., of us needing easy fill-ups at gas stations, unlike what walloped us in the '80s with long lines to fill our tanks across America.

In other words, I honestly don't think the public blames the oil companies. The majors didn't create this economic chaos. A guy named Putin did. That's where the blame sticks, if you ask me.

Now, that said, I agree Aethon could be left standing at the alter. That's true. Aethon is quite a sneaky corporation because it's game book isn't cut-and-dry transparent. Also, it seems to me that they've been putting a lot of spit and shine on their books per the Ashland Field step out, along with their other aggressive drilling plans across numerous parishes/counties.

Yep, they're sneaky. It's like someone sprucing up a used Hummer with an expensive wax/detail job.

Yet when we then shift to the glass being half full, if I was to place a bet on a buyer, my first go-to would be CNPC since the Chinese are deep-pocket aggressive and like to domineer a high-demand market. Plus, their state-funded intelligence calculations probably skew toward Russia continuing to be gagged via the curtailment of its petro exports, especially the highly desirable NG flows into the EU. Aethon would make for a sweet hedge for China.

But then again, there could also be an unknown geopolitical gambit that I'm blind to in regards to CNPC gobbling up Aethon. If so, then I'd put a Vegas bet on a seven sister. Maybe even XTO.

Skip,

What was the peak count for LA and peak for TX?

LA had 46 the first week of March also. Tx has been at 26 twice before. A number of Haynesville operators drill on both sides of the state line particularly Harrison and Panola counties. Trinity, Comstock, Exco and Pine Wave move rigs back and forth between the two which accounts for some of the changes week to week.

Skip,

I get 42 in LA - ???

Nice catch, Tom.  It's good to know someone is paying attention.  I will correct and repost.  Thanks.

Any word or info when Trinity may drill new wells in North Shreveport  T18N R14 W  Sections 4 & 33?  Leasing agent has been saying "soon" for several months.

Strange goings on there, Iris.  It might require its own discussion thread.
