We entered into a 3 year lease with Petrohawk in 2009 for property in Desoto Parish. The lease expired and I have been trying to get a release issued. All letters and emails are returned undeliverable. Since the area seems to be heating up again I want to make sure any interested parties know we are available. Any suggestions on what I should do?

This may be a stupid suggestion, but....  Petrohawk was bought out by BHP Billiton about 2 years ago, so all of your Petrohawk emails will not be answered.  Go to the BHP Billition web site and get the mailing address there, if you have not tried that.

Thanks Henry. I did know that BHP bought Petrohawk so I directed my inquiries to their customer relations email and it was returned undeliverable. Very frustrating. I am wondering if I went to Clerk of Courts in Mansfield if they could help me.

Call the BHP Haynesville office main number:  318-682-2468.  Explain what you need done and request contact information for that specific person or department.

Thank you Skip for the contact info. I will definitely give them a call

If that doesn't work and if you come to Shreveport occasionally I can give you their Haynesville headquarters address. I've always wondered how they would handle a personal visit. LOL!

Skip, I have tried several times to call the BHP Haynesville number you gave me but all I get is a busy signal.

That's a direct number.  When I called it I got a voice mail.  Try this number, 682-2500.  That should get you someone that can transfer you to the proper department.

Thanks Skip, I did actually speak to someone this time and she gave me the owner relations # in Houston.  I am getting a busy signal there also.  I am just wondering how important is it that I get a release.  I seem to have spent a lot of time on this and feel like I am just spinning my wheels.

Send a demand letter, certified - return receipt requested.  Include a copy of your lease and request that a Release of Lease be filed within 30 days.  I don't think there's any great rush, just be persistent.  Keep trying the owner relations number periodically and find out to whose attention the letter should go and their address.  You might try calling at different times over several days.

I wonder in the tax filing deadline is causing the owners relations # and office to be extra busy.

Send the demand letter to BHP Billiton Petroleum Properties (GP) LLC, 1360 Post Oak Blvd, Houston, TX 77056.

Skip I wanted to let you know I got my release from BHP Petrohawk today. Thank you for all your assistance!
