There is a learning curve for installing programs, different terms for file structure, etc. because it is not Windows but information is readily available on the internet. Some add ons will have to be installed like Shockwave, Java, some codecs, etc., because they are proprietary (copyrighted) and you will have to agree to a license from those providers but they are still free. Ubuntu is Open source and free for the downloading. Drivers for most hardware are included with it as well so you don't have to install much of it, unlike Windows. Office programs are hard to tell apart from Microsofts and they are included as well as other handy programs.
Everything just works!
Microsoft will get a run for it's money if this catches on. Most folks won't fool with it because they have been force fed windows for too long and just figure putting up with the problems associated with Windows is just part of computing life!
Doesn't have to be that way though.

If I recall his post he said he was having problems on different computers and asked if it was just him or if others had the same problems. It was kinda weird. Hope he gets it all worked out soon.
Just asking ... was he the only geologist GHS has/had ... just asking? No cannons fired, just asking.
I prefer the 6 pounder swivel mount. Some don't fit just right with others but I will stick by my liberal arts degree in communications with others.

Love the eight pounder. Cart-mounted, of course. I'm not on an big enough ship to warrant full 32#'ers. Gotta run onto a "Ship of the Line" to come across those.
As for bowling ....The land owners get to keep score....
