I am an oil and gas lawyer in Houston with roots in East Texas. I was born and raised in Jasper, Texas and have family ties still in the area. I have been an oil and gas lawyer for ten years. I started out representing operators, but have since devoted myself to representing landowners and doing my part to educate the masses on their legal rights. I've started with educating my own family. We own acreage in East Texas and South Texas, but I was surprised to learn that nobody had a clue…

By the President of the United States of America.
A Proclamation.

Minute 6:06 is where it all went south. Minute 10:45 is where I laughed out loud. Like an aged rollercoaster that you were foolish enough to hop on. I, however, continued to watch, hoping that it would right itself. But it wasn’t to be. Ms. Stahl, what did we do to you to deserve such “royal treatment?”
You can watch the segment here.
What I…

Mineral Estate Surface Use Limitations
Any surface damages discussion must begin with the caveat that the mineral estate is dominant to the surface estate. This means that the mineral owner has the right to use as much of the surface as is reasonably necessary to develop the minerals but must do so with due regard for the rights of surface owners and without negligence. Texas law defers generally to the lessee’s view of reasonableness. To make matters worse for surface owners, the…

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SIGN YOUR OIL & GAS LEASE?
This article discusses what generally happens from oil and gas lease (“Lease”) signing to royalty check arrival. A surface site…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
