Skip, look at that pocket in 14/14:  sec. 4, sec. 9, sections 6 & 7 and now 14. All were super wells. There is something geological right there.

kcm, it has been evident for a long time now that the quality of the "rock" varies widely across the play and that there are numerous "sweet spots" where Total Organic Content (TOC) and brittleness of the shale makes for superior wells.

Skip, might a large well also have to do with the thickness of the HA?  On COMPANY: EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc, ha rasue; Henry McKinney 14h, 1: 242202. WHERE: Holly, S 14. T. 14N R. 14W I looked up the LDNR data and it appears as if the HA is over 340 feet thick on this well.  Is this another reason some wells come in stronger?

Thickness is a poor predictor of a well's IP.  Some of the thickest HS in the Play is located in N. Caddo Parish (300') and we know how that turned out.  TOC is far more important than thickness as there are Super Wells (by Les B.'s definition) where the HS is barely 100' thick but has high TOC.  In a number of areas where the shale is thickest, it also has a higher clay content which makes it difficult to frac successfully.  Clay makes the shale less brittle and more plastic.

The 20 stage frac and 25/64 choke may have some bearing on the 24346 mcf IP rate.

FXEF, I saw that and was thinking a 20 stage frac would bring more natgas.  If so, then I wonder why an operator wouldn't perform a 20 stage frac on every well?

Risk of mechanical problems.  The more frac stages, the greater chance of accidents that can compromise the completion of the well.  And cost.  A twenty stage frac is six to eight above the average.  And about half the cost of these ~$10M wells is the frac.  A twenty stage frac might cost $2M - $3M more than the average twelve or fourteen stage completion.

Skip, that makes sense.  I find it interesting, though, that Encana would perform a 20 stage frac on the above mentioned well yet a few sections over they perform a 14 stage and maybe another section over a 12 stage.  I'd love to know how they decide which gets which.
