I would not be surprised to see crude north of $60/barrel by spring especially as the rate of vaccinations rises and people feel more confident to resume routine activities.  The question in my mind is, would stable prices of $60 or somewhat greater be enough to generate interest in plays formerly seen as too expensive to pursue.  Like the TMS and the central Louisiana AC.  I'm with you Hydro, I'd be fine with paying a modest increase at the pump.  Gasoline at $60 crude would be a bargain compared to when crude was $100.

I'd also prefer "toe up" for liquids production.

2/12: Ensign 777 reported 29 days drilling ahead @ 16,545'.

Thanks for the update

Only 1395' progress since last report -

Either a lot of operational issues getting ready to drill the lateral or some problems in drilling. Should be drilling lateral at 1000' per day if things going right

Next report in a week will be telling

RM, what happens in the process of going horizontal?  Much tripping?  Running casing?  Changing to a mud motor?  Etc. ?

Skip, cut and pasted the details from SONRIS (below).

Looks like in the past week, they ran intermediate casing, cemented it in, drilled out cement at casing shoe , ran casing shoe pressure test and then drilled the 1395' of new formation before having to make another trip to change out equipment.

These is no standard answer as to what happens in that time from drilling the curve to going horizontal. But on these deep AC wells, running deep intermediate casing should be the norm. They swapped out drilling mud systems earlier so that was not part of this process on this well - that adds some time to change our the drilling fluids.

I would expect next weeks report to show a LOT of progress. With perhaps the well at TD and running casing.

If not - there are problems here.

Thanks, RM.

2/19: Ensign 777 reported 36 days drilling ahead @ 18,892'.

Better progress - 2646' of lateral drilled since last report.

But very slow compared to other horizontal operators in other play (up to and over 1000' per day)

Just hope they can get this hole to TD without any problems

Ensign 777 has not reported a depth in the last two rig reports but is still reporting "Drilling Ahead" at 50 days post spud.

Hmmm. Strange. But probably not a good sign. This well should have been to TD before this.

Hopefully any problems are not too severe

"Drilling Ahead" in the parlance of the rig report could cover many operations other than drilling.  I never see specific mentions of setting casing, logging or coring or any type of formation test.  So no telling why the rig is still on site at 50 days.  We'll see if the report changes when due in two days.

I see a drilling/workover inspection report included for this well with entry date 3/10.  It says stand by waiting on gas buster exchange.  There are two received dates stamped on the report:   one says received 2/11 and the other says received 3/9.  It does say current tvd is 16,246.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
