I have no idea what it might be, unless it were the horizontal Smackover as in Brown Dense.

Does anyone know for sure that CHK is the one leasing the brown dense. I heard that it was CHK with Total as a JV but that was just a rumor. How much land has been leased in the Brown Dense area? I've heard rumors of leasing stretching from Columbia county over to Ashley county with the northern portions of Webster, Claiborne, Union, and Morehouse parishes involved.  That could add up to around 1million acres when you include all the parishes. Leases are averaging $300/acre with 20% royalties.

Maybe they are gonna announce that they "discovered" that they may not be the most popular operator in the HA.

True, but they wouldn't need a press conference to spread that news, lol!

Obviously, it's the enormous gas/oil deposits located below the Haynesville Shale that we keep hearing about.

8-)

Rumors are so rampant in the O&G business that I'd definitely wait for the official announcement.  Heck, these days, it could be some sort of announcement about some sort of financial maneuvers.

BTW, I'm joking about gas/oil under the Haynesville Shale.  That's a persistent rumor that keeps getting brought up and then dismissed on this site.

Be nice to see another land rush though, huh?

Well my friend got his information from the chk monthly telephone conference. Here is what Aubrey McClendon said

"Some of you may be wondering what is next in our liquids plays. I can tell you that we have several new plays under evaluation

or development, including an almost 100,000-acre new position in the Williston basin and one million acre position in another

play that will probably be ready for disclosure in a JV data room in the first half of 2011. We believe there will be worldwide

interest in this next big play of ours."

What play does CPK already own a one million acre position?

Somewhere chk has quietly been leasing close to 1MM acres. I don't know where it could be or how one could find out. It possibly could be an existing play, but it sounds like it's something totally new.

LP, if it is out West it is fairly easy to accumulate a one million acreage position.

600k acres in the Eagle Ford. Also, they're incahoots with China to put 40 rigs there by 2012. 5000 well expectancy. China dumping 2.2billion into the project. Eagle Ford produces a fair amount of oil in the gas wells.
Unless Chesapeake is adding 600K to what it has now in the Eagle Ford... there's nothing really new unless there's someone's keeping secrets.  And looking at other posts... the same can be said to the "Wolfcamp". From all i've read on this site and on the "inter-web"... SOMETHING is happening.   We'll just have to wait and see unless someone leaks it.... hopefully!
