landowner The Myth of the Heron and the Hummingbird.

Heron and the Hummingbird

(Hitchiti Tribe)

retold by

S. E. Schlosser

Heron and Hummingbird were very good friends, even though one was tall and gangly and awkward and one was small and sleek and fast. They both loved to eat fish. The Hummingbird preferred small fish like minnows and Heron liked the large ones.

One day, Hummingbird said to his friend: "I am not sure there are enough fish in the world for both of our kind to eat. Why don't we have a race to see which of… Continue

landowner SHOULD I MARRY MY LANDMAN?

DO YOU TRUST YOUR LANDMAN ENOUGH TO MARRY HIM/HER?

A mineral lease has a longer life than most marriages. Since this document may be longer lasting than a marriage, why would you enter into it lightly?

Some may look at it with the dreaming eyed impetuous hopes or the same mindset as a teenager who would get married in a Las Vegas drive through Chapel. I’ve heard people say “it’s all free money, so why does it even matter?”. Nothing in life is free, so a little… Continue

landowner Chatting with T. Boone Pickens at the EnergyBiz Leadership Forum

Shalers,

The EnergyBiz Leadrship Forum was put together well. The focus of the conference tackled the effects of the Obama stimulus package on the power industry, as well as the short- and long-term consequences of the energy and economic crises. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was a little disappointed that CNG was not directly tackled in depth. It seemed that every other energy aspect was covered except CNG. This absence is probably explained when one looks at the current… Continue

I am UMI

I am an unleased mineral interest owner. I can't help but notice the derisive comments slung my way and towards others like me. Seems industry types hurl slurs at us, particularly when business is slow, i.e., when natural gas prices tumble a bit. Yeah, no one likes them; at least, not those of us who stand to profit immensely from higher prices. In any event, back to the point. Exemplary of the childish name-calling include "parasites, goats, and freeloaders." Hmmm. Bullying is distasteful not… Continue

landowner Disagreeing and Disagreeable

Disagreeing and Disagreeable

I’ll be the first to admit that I have been in the middle of more than my fair share of GHS disagreements. Some of these disagreements are actually enjoyable to be involved in. Sharing ideas, hashing out opinions and trying to see the other side of the coin. I believe it is one of the best parts of the site. Disagreeing respectfully.

All of the disagreements haven’t been pretty. It is sometimes hard to be polite when you so vehemently disagree… Continue
