We are a novice in trying to understand Sonris. We own approximately 38 acres in both Red River and Bienville Parishes. 14N R7 33,34 outside of Ashland and 12N 8 29 near Grand Bayou Reservoir. Both were leased twice about 8 years ago, but have not had any further leasing opportunities except the occasional generic letter asking if we would like to sell our rights. We can no longer locate the coordinates on the Ashland area on Sonris. Do not know if the land has been removed from Haynesville…

Anyone has information regarding porosity for the woodbine formation northern Leon county? I'm wondering how far the eaglebine play extends... I have seen some indication of structural control to the north, and some fields with WOC defined...not sure if the Woodbine is more conventional in nature in that area
Thanks!!!!
Hello all, in light of what Skip Peel and others have written about mineral values, buying and selling, I thought it might be interesting to describe the viewpoint from "the other side" as to how we go about evaluating and acquiring minerals. For reference, I founded Axiom Minerals about two years ago and concentrate the vast majority of our efforts in the Haynesville Shale area of North Louisiana and East Texas.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen companies spend tens of thousands of dollars at a single trade show, and then NEVER FOLLOW UP on their leads. Mind boggling, right? If you are exhibiting at trade shows, here are a few things that can help your ROI.
1. Pre-show promotion. Reach out to customers, spread the word via social media, if you advertise, include "See us at XXX Show" in your ads. A very…

I've had many client's ask me this question..."I don't use Twitter. Does my company need to have a Twitter account?" I was a disbeliever myself until I set up the first account for a client of ours. Twitter gives you the opportunity to connect with people and companies, and disseminate news quickly and easily, and if your "Tweets" are of interest, they may be "retweeted" by your followers, spreading that news much farther and to a larger audience. Once you set up an account, go to the search…

The Bakken and Eagle Ford may currently be the largest unconventional oil producers in the U.S., but the two fields certainly do not hold a monopoly on horizontal oil. In fact, North America's shale oil plays may prove to be just as abundant and diverse as the continent's natural gas plays. SM Energy's (SM) earnings and operating update …

Last Thursday, officials at the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology released highlights of its two-year study of the Barnett Shale field. This is ground zero for the American shale revolution since it is where George Mitchell and his engineers tested the thesis that by drilling horizontal wells and applying substantial…

One of my reasons for getting on here was simply to get my own unfiltered information on the exciting developments going on in the shale oil & gas areas of the country and see what jobs there may be lurking out there for an architect whose last position was principal in a civil engineering consulting firm.
In this area of the country, I encounter cohorts, work colleagues, and academics totally oblivious to the sea change taking place in the energy industry. I mention the…

Recently a GHS member asked a few pointed questions that demonstrate the frustration felt by anyone who has labored through deciphering their royalty statement only to discover they're being paid far less for their gas than the prices reported on TV.
Whole books can (and have) been written on the issues surrounding the payment and reporting of royalties, and this post is not intended to be as comprehensive. Rather, I hope this post will address some common and reasonable concerns…

This post touches upon a commonly misunderstood issue: That the word "royalty" is used to described many different kinds of mineral right, which are governed by separate legal regimes in many cases.
These distinctions become relevant when one has questions like "Does XYZ's royalties expire when a lease expires?" or "Are my royalties subject to prescription?" The answers to these questions and others depend on what kind of…

A demand letter can be formal or informal, written by an attorney on behalf of a client or written by an individual on his own behalf, demand payment or demand some other action from a party. AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
