yes, the world is " going to Hell in a hand basket" (and i never understood the literal interpretation, but we all understand what it means) but our life expectancy has never been longer. we can, if we choose to do so, work until we are 70, apparently jump out of airplanes when we are 90, but some say we are on the brink of extinction. hard for a simple guy like me to reconcile.

The answer is quite obvious. Instead of eating all the healthy fruits and vegetables that surrounded them, they ate animal fat morning, noon and night. By the time they reached 30, their blood vessels looked like the Lincoln Tunnel at rush hour.

Lions, tigers, and bears...think about it, a bear shows up in the middle of the night, it's dark, the fire is out; who do you think will outrun the bear, the kids or the old man?

the older man will outrun the bear; the older man has knowledge and wisdom...one knows you can not outrun a bear.

When I was a young one, I was bullet proof and bear proof. Today I could be a victim of a bear attack or a drive by shooting.

I just need to be quicker than whoever I push down and step over on my way out of the door! 

I was once asked why I carry such a big knife when up in Bear Country.... I always answer, "The Bear is going to need a toothpick after he finishes with me!"

Stores in eastern U.S. sell bear repellent that comes in a can; you hold the can upright and spray the contents directly into an attacking bears eyes.

Stores in the western U.S. sell bear repellent that work by sound.  You purchase a bag containing four small bells and a bit of string.  You attach those bells to your clothes or around your neck.  If you run into a bear and he doesn't eat you, the bells worked.  If someone finds bells in bear poop, they didn't work.
