Silence: Listening to Others
Scott Lyons
11/14/2008
As the season of Lent began this past year, my church gave each person a small card with a blunt, squared masonry nail woven through a piece of heavy lavender card stock. Above the nail is written a simple prayer, part of which follows: “May this Lenten nail remind me . . . of the season of Lent began this past year, my church gave each person a small card with a blunt, squared masonry nail woven through a piece of heavy…

To get God's attention, should not be the question, since God has His eye on us from birth. Whether we accept Jesus as Savior or not God will judge us. All our actions, thoughts, and words will be brought to light, and we will be judged accordingly. If we have our name written in the Lambs book of life then we will enter the glories of heaven, not because we are perfect, but because our sins are covered by the blood of Christ, if not then the person will be cast into the lake of fire. The…

I live outside of the U.S., but still own family property in North
East Red River Parrish.
I have been approched by CGG Veritas to give permission to conduct a 3-D seismic survey on my property. Can someone give me some information on the do's and don'ts?
I was really taken on the original mineral lease for not knowing what ws going on. I don't want this to happen again.

There are a lot of people who put a bunch of time into this site and into The Shale. So, the question is, why? I started out just looking for information for my tax clients and then myself. Then I got into going to area meetings and briefing on tax stuff for H&R Block.
Now I feel like this is more. Not only have I learned a lot, been able to help my clients, and answered some questions (to the best of my ability) for some fellow Shalers; but I feel like I've found someplace to express…

Problems with Big Drilling Units
The Louisiana Department of Conservation has already approved joining some sections near the Texas line to form drilling units for the Haynesville Shale in excess of 900 acres instead of the normal 640 acre units. I understand also that Louisiana law currently limits the size of drilling units to 640 acres, so I do not understand how this change can be implemented without changing the law.
Don't think this could only impact those sections on the… Continue

Since this site has gotten so big and there are so many newbies on here, I thought I would do a little basics outline for folks this time. Let me prefice this by saying that leasing has slowed to a crawl at this point and Chesapeake is backing out of many deals in areas they do not hold the majority. That said, I do think the market will stabalize and the leasing activity will ebb and flow for the next several years so information about drilling and leasing is still relevant. I hope this helps…

Every mineral owner should assemble, and keep current, a file of pertinent information regarding their mineral estate. The file should contain conveyance documents of numerous types, royalty payment receipts, lessee contact information and well data (if the minerals are under an existing lease) and notes that help to describe the extent and status of the mineral estate. The discussions on Go Haynesville Shale provide a daily reminder of why all mineral owners should know as much as possible…

We have land in the above area with leases to Petrohawk. Curious if either Petrohawk, XTO Energy or EOG, possibly Cheseapeake are drilling new wells in this area.

As you all know by now my neighborhood is held by production from a 1955 lease and a well in a completely different section. I and some of my neighbors have spent the past 3 weeks discussing the need to move forward with a demand for release and possible litigation with all of the folks in the affected area. There has been much discussion re, the attorney fee, court costs, etc.
There have been many questions raised and, since more and more people out there are finding themselves in…

We are very excited about the Haynesville Shale and all it has in store for our future.
We will be offering a Certificate in Petroleum Land Management in January 2009. This program is 80 hours in length but is subject to change as many advisors have asked that participants complete the Notary Public class. This program will educate and train participants at a level and speed that, upon completion, makes them immediately ready to enter the workforce. Additionally, LSUS is seeking…
