Where is everyone working?

I am a field landman for a small oil and gas company out of Lafayette Louisiana, well needless to say work has been getting extremely slow the last few months. I have been searching for employment but have had no success. It seems as though no one is hiring, but I keep reading of all the activity going on in the Haynesville Shale. Can anyone give me any leads to who in the area may be hiring? I have ample experience including title work, leasing/permiting, pipeline planning, drill site setup,… Continue

AMERICAN RIGHT OF WAY ASSOCIATES, INC. - CLASS REVIEW.

When there is a downturn in the job market, experts advise get more education and to get out and network with people in your industry. An AMERICAN RIGHT OF WAY ASSOCIATES, INC. (ARA) class allows you to do both. They also have a heaping dose of Lagniappe to add, but I’ll get to that a little later.

I attended the AWA Right of Way (ROW) class held January 24, 2009 at the Petroleum Club in Shreveport. I’ve attended many educational seminars for Real Estate, Title and Mortgage. I have… Continue

SHOULD I MARRY MY LANDMAN?

DO YOU TRUST YOUR LANDMAN ENOUGH TO MARRY HIM/HER?

A mineral lease has a longer life than most marriages. Since this document may be longer lasting than a marriage, why would you enter into it lightly?

Some may look at it with the dreaming eyed impetuous hopes or the same mindset as a teenager who would get married in a Las Vegas drive through Chapel. I’ve heard people say “it’s all free money, so why does it even matter?”. Nothing in life is free, so a little… Continue

Caddo Assessors Office for Dummies

I posted this in a disscusion earlier and thought it informative. Please feel free to comment, I will update, add or correct any information as time goes on.

The driving and time aside, I personally believe every landowner should have a copy of the assessors plat for land they own. You can make your trip even more worthwhile by checking to see what they have assesed you for. You can challange your assessment if you feel its too high and many times they will knock a little off just to… Continue

Prescription and Mineral Sevitudes (Part 1)

Louisiana follows the non-ownership theory of oil and gas, thus there is no seperate mineral estate. Any attempts to sell or reserve the ownership of oil and gas results in a Mineral Servitude.

The most important legal consequence of the mineral servitude is that unlike a mineral estate that can be created in perpetuity with no obligation on the owner to use its rights is that a mineral servitude is subject to perscription of non-use for ten years.

Article 21 of the… Continue

Our Site Needs to Unite

Joe Dyer here, I have been reading all my messages in my box the last few months. To be honest with everyone I have been rather disapointed. We have seen to have lost site of why we started GoHaynesvilleShale. We all need to remember why this site was started, to share information about the Natural Gas situation that we have been blessed with. We need to share our information on everything we learn and find out. I know we all have our differences, but I think we should not use this site to show… Continue
